Google Maps is not a reliable mainland navigator. FCDO lists Google as permanently blocked.

AMap Global and Apple Maps (Apple Maps in China uses Amap) are the practical pair. Baidu Maps is a weaker-English backup.

实用组合是 AMap Global 和苹果地图（苹果地图在中国用高德）。百度地图英文较弱，可作备用。

China Daily government Q&A (12 Aug 2025) points to Microsoft Translator, Baidu, Youdao, and WeChat translate. Download offline packs and test them in airplane mode. Do not rely on Google Translate once you land.
