Finding traveler-friendly Mini Programs in WeChat

Many mainland services you need as a visitor — transport, tickets, food, hotels — run as Mini Programs inside WeChat, not as separate apps. Open them from a QR code, a chat link, or Discover → Mini Programs (exact layout depends on your WeChat build).

WeChat is making it easier for inbound visitors to find commonly used Mini Programs. As described by WeChat / may change: check Discover → Mini Programs in your WeChat build. Do not rely on a fixed “inbound zone” name or a single click-path — recheck what your client shows.

One-tap page translation: Me → Settings → General → Translation, then inside a Mini Program tap ··· → Translate. Official launch coverage (2024-10-15) listed 18 languages; open docs also expose a defaultLanguage list of language codes. The list can change — recheck in your client.

WeChat is also improving Mini Program UX for inbound visitors (international phone login, passport / foreign-name forms, English search naming, and layout after translation). You should still expect Chinese UI in many places.

Safe everyday examples travelers often open: DiDi China (ride-hailing) and Amap / AMap (maps). WeChat OA also named Maoyan, Dianping, IHG One Rewards, Heytea, and HopeGoo as early adapters — unconfirmed roster. Do not treat any list as a certified “first batch.”
