Mount Siguniang (四姑娘山), Sichuan
Prices change, check before you go. The official site is sgns.cn (English: sgns.cn/en/). Hours and road conditions change often too.
At a glance
- Base: Siguniangshan Town (四姑娘山镇), about 3,200 m above sea level.
- Three valleys: Shuangqiao, Changping and Haizi. Give each one a day. Most people allow about 3 days.
- Tickets need a real-name booking in advance. On busy days they sell out.
Getting there
- By car: about 175 km, roughly 3 hours, longer on holidays. The route runs via Yingxiu and Wolong (the “China Panda Avenue”, G350). Don’t drive mountain roads at night.
- By bus from Chengdu: buses leave from Chadianzi Bus Station (茶店子客运站) for Siguniangshan Town. There’s no fixed schedule. Book on scqckypw.com (Chinese). Fare: ¥120.
- By bus from Dujiangyan: buses also run to Siguniangshan Town, with no fixed schedule. Book on scqckypw.com. Fare: ¥110.
- Tip: arrive a day early and rest in town before any hiking. The official site advises an extra day to acclimatise before outdoor activities.
Which valley?
- Shuangqiao Valley (双桥沟): easiest, best for a first visit. A sightseeing bus runs to the end of the valley (about 2,900–3,840 m). Get off at viewpoints on the way back.
- Changping Valley (长坪沟): for hikers. A short bus ride to Lama Temple, then about 12 km one way on boardwalk and trail through forest to Muluozi meadow, with peak views. Horses are available.
- Haizi Valley (海子沟): for fit hikers. No bus; you walk or ride a horse from town. Meadows with views of the four peaks come first; the alpine lakes are higher up and take a full day.
Tickets (peak season, Apr 1 – Nov 30)

- People with heart or lung conditions or uncontrolled high blood pressure should check with a doctor first.
- Bring warm layers and sun protection.
- Hiking, camping or climbing beyond normal sightseeing needs registration at the Outdoor Activity Management Center, a licensed guide, insurance and a separate outdoor ticket. The normal sightseeing ticket doesn’t cover it. Go through a licensed operator.
