Private stay registration住私人住所登记

If you stay in a private home, Airbnb, or a friend’s place, register with local public security within 24 hours. That is Law Article 39. Fine up to RMB 2,000 (Article 76).

住私人住宅、民宿或朋友家，须在 24 小时内向当地公安登记。这是出境入境法第三十九条。罚款最高 2000 元（第七十六条）。

Hotels do this for you. Private stays do not. Change of address means register again.

酒店会代办。私人住所不会。换地方要再登记。

An online registration pilot started 20 March 2026 in Hebei, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Hubei, Guangxi, Chongqing, and Sichuan. Visa-free travellers are not exempt.
